Trade wars and tariffs often remind us of a game of chicken. It feels very natural for the decision makers to keep escalating until something bad happens.

And speaking of chickens, there’s a funny tariff-related story from sixty years ago that resulted in what is still known as “the chicken tax” today. In short, Europe put tariffs on American poultry and the USA retaliated with 25% tariffs on foreign trucks. The outcomes from these choices are still felt today (some good, some bad).
